Houston is central to many of Missouri's great attractions. One of the most popular of those is the Mark Twain National Forest, where boating, hiking and camping are just the beginning.

The Mark Twain National Forest is immense and covers large areas scattered across the southern half of Missouri. Houston, Missouri, as you can see from the map (right) is in the heart of this national treasure.

In the Houston, Missouri area, the Mark Twain National Forest is home to outstanding streams and rivers.

The Ozark National Scenic Waterway is here, along with numerous campsites, springs, trailways and wildlife areas.

 

The Big Piney river is home to some of the best canoeing in all of Missouri. 

Horse back is another way to view the Missouri outdoors, and the Houston, Missouri area has scenic trails in abundance.

Enjoy memorable rides through the scenic Ozarks by following the trails that head out from either Big Piney Trail Camp or Cole Creek Recreation Area. One of the largest areas of public land north of the Missouri River, and a popular destination for nearby urban dwellers, Cedar Creek offers a variety of recreational experiences while protecting wildlife habitat.
